Tom Brady reportedly unlikely to return to Patriots

It’s been reported that Tom Brady might play elsewhere next season.The “Tom Brady 2020 watch” took a different turn on Thursday. All of a sudden, it appears the quarterback could be done with the Patriots.According to the Boston Herald, as of Thursday, the Patriots still haven’t reached out to Brady. The Herald cited a source who said, “it’s not looking good.” That report is similar to the one by ESPN’s Jeff Darlington who said, “I’m now at the point where I would be stunned if Tom Brady went back to New England” on ESPN’s Get Up.Brady’s agent Don Yee was at the Indiana Convention Center on Thursday morning. He met with a group of local reporters, The Providence Journal included, but politely declined comment on Brady and the reports about the quarterback. Bill Belichick landed in Indy on Wednesday, so there’s still time for a meeting to happen.The NFL Combine has been the place where deals come together. Here in Indy, is where the markets are set.This year, however, things are a little different due to the ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations. Combine that with a later start to free agency (March 18) and a lot of things are in a holding pattern when it comes to teams, players and their agents. That certainly could be the case with Brady, Belichick and the Patriots. However, it’s clear that Brady will have multiple suitors in free agency.Teams like Tennessee, Las Vegas, Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Chargers are expected to show interest and pursue Brady.This week in Indy has been full of rumors and speculation regarding the Patriots and their list of upcoming free agents.According to a source, there is mutual interest between the Patriots and safety Devin McCourty. The two parties plan to meet to talk about a contract extension in the near future. It’s possible that McCourty still hits free agency due to the list of teams that are interested, but the Pats will get first crack.It’s still unknown if the Patriots will pick up Jason McCourty’s contract option for 2020, per a source.There’s been some contact between linebacker Jamie Collins and the Patriots, per source. Collins is expected to have several teams interested in his services.According to USA Today’s Patriots Wire, the Pats have had “minimal contact” with Kyle Van Noy. He is expected to land a big deal come March.There’s been plenty of buzz around the Combine about Joe Thuney. The guard is expected to set the market for his position and the market is expected to be robust. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Patriots need to fill his left guard spot next year.The same goes for Ted Karras. He’s viewed as one of the best centers available in free agency and is expected to have a laundry list of teams interested in his services.According to NESN, Phillip Dorsett’s camp has multiple meetings set up with prospective teams. It does seem likely, at this point, the receiver will be elsewhere next season.Adam Butler will be a restricted free agent come March. It seems more than likely that he’ll be tendered by the Patriots, playing in Foxboro next season and then look for a new deal as an unrestricted free agent come 2021.

Kate Hudson Wears Face Mask on Flight, & Fans Insist She’s Doing Coronavirus Protection All Wrong

With coronavirus headlines growing more alarmist by the day, it’s not exactly surprising to see Kate Hudson wearing a face mask to travel. In fact, it’s becoming somewhat of a celebrity trend to share selfies wearing these on-the-rise travel accessories. But judging by the boon of advice (and, well, criticism) in Hudson’s comment feed, fans don’t feel as though she’s as prepared to fend off the coronavirus as she thinks.
On Tuesday, American health authorities put out a precautionary warning that they expect the coronavirus outbreak will eventually make its way to the U.S. Then, a few hours later, Hudson took to Instagram to share a photo of herself on a plane wearing a face mask. “Travel 2020,” she captioned the snapshot, adding a flushed face emoji. And it didn’t take long for fans to start doling out advice on how to better protect yourself during travel at this time of heightened health risks.“I work for an airline,” wrote one commenter. “I don’t wear the mask when I travel, but I sure wipe the hell off every surface I might have to touch with disinfecting wipes.” Others suggested eye protection, loads of hand sanitizer and skipping flying altogether. But the most prolific suggestion given to Hudson was to upgrade her face mask. “If you’re worried about corona, only the N95 mask will protect you,” a nurse chimed in, pointing out that Hudson’s current mask “won’t do much.”

Hudson responded to that comment, hilariously saying, “Well, shit! This is the best I can do now! God speed.”As for the N95 respirator, Hudson’s fans aren’t wrong in claiming they are more effective at preventing the spread of viruses than a standard surgical mask. According to the FDA website, “The ‘N95’ designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles.”Having said that, there are a few big caveats. The N95 respirators aren’t designed for public use, so they need to be “fit-tested” to ensure their efficacy. If they aren’t or are the wrong size, they might be just as ineffective as the surgical mask — which, for the record, is relatively ineffective since tiny respiratory droplets can easily get behind it.For now, until more is known about the spread of the coronavirus, the CDCrecommends people follow the general rules of avoiding respiratory viruses, like staying away from people who are sick, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and avoiding touching your eyes or nose.

There are no cases in Florida, yet, but health officials warned Tuesday that the spread of the novel coronavirus to the United States was inevitable, even as some experts said that it was no cause for panic in the Sunshine State.“It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen in this country any more but a question of when this will happen,” Nancy Messonnier, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told a news conference Tuesday.“Disruption to everyday life may be severe,” she said, warning the American public needed to prepare for the possibility that the impact from the virus could be bad, with school closures, cancelled public events and workers forced to stay at home.SUPPORT LOCAL NEWS: Consider subscribing todayCoronavirus already has caused illness and death, and it has sustained person-to-person transmission. That’s two of the three factors for a pandemic, Messonnier said.“As community spread is detected in more and more countries, the world moves closer to meeting the third criteria — worldwide spread of the new virus,” Messonnier said.The World Health Organization said Monday the term pandemic “did not fit the facts,” but experts say it soon could.As of Tuesday, 14 cases have been diagnosed in the United States, in addition to 39 cases among repatriated persons from high-risk settings, for a current total of 53 cases within the United States.The Florida Department of Health is “actively involved in enhanced surveillance for respiratory illness that may be COVID-19,” state health officials said on FDOH’s website. “Epidemiologists will follow up on any suspected cases that meet criteria for COVID-19 to arrange for testing when needed and monitor contacts of any confirmed cases, if they occur.”FDOH says the state agency will communicate regularly with the public and health care providers with updates on the virus.Florida Chamber Foundation Chief Economist Dr. Jerry Parrish says Florida should be “concerned, but not panicked” about the coronavirus’ threats on Florida’s economy, potentially impacting tourism, the cruise industry, imports and exports as well as the manufacturing sector.Sign up for our daily and breaking newsletters″(Monday) the Dow dropped by more than 1,000 points, companies are cutting their GDP forecasts, 30-year mortgages are at an eight-year low, manufacturers are idling their factories because of supply chain issues. IHOP celebrates National Pancake Day, expects to serve 5 million of them

The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday isn’t just Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday — it’s also National Pancake Day at IHOP.Eating pancakes on the day before Lent begins is a tradition that is believed to go as far back as the Middle Ages, according to The Sun.However, IHOP — owned by Dine Brands Global Inc — started its own annual National Pancake Day in 2006.This year, visitors to the restaurant can get a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to a press release.A spokesperson told FOX Business the company expects to serve 5 million pancakes Tuesday.

Hawaii doctors flagged 8 for coronavirus symptoms; none tested

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaii doctors have alerted the Department of Health at least 8 times about patients they thought could have coronavirus, but none of them were tested. Always Investigating explains why. The state tells KHON2 the eight patients flagged by doctors did not meet the definition requiring testing. Hawaii is among just a handful of U.S. states and territories that have not submitted samples to the CDC. The state Department of Health’s daily update still shows no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hawaii. There are 61 people self-monitoring (55 on Oahu, 4 Hawaii Island,1 Maui, 1 is Kauai) but none are in quarantine. The DOH says there are no “persons under investigation.” Always Investigating found out Hawaii doctors submitted eight “Patient Under Investigation” report forms to the Department of Health. But the DOH spokesperson tells KHON2: “After DOH evaluation and follow-up, none of these requests met the CDC case definition for a Person Under Investigation and for testing.”Always Investigating asked: What might lead a doctor to go ahead and submit that form? “Coronavirus is a respiratory illness, and it has a lot of symptoms that are identical to influenza and also the common cold. Except that with influenza you have a fever and with coronavirus, frequently you have a fever,” explained Dr. Kalani Brady of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. “So a doctor will see a patient with those symptoms and then might be concerned that this would be coronavirus.” Currently nationwide all testing must be done by the CDC at its mainland facility. As of today the state of Hawaii still has not submitted any samples, while 43 other states and territories have sent in a total 479 for testing. The CDC says 14 tested positive, 412 tested negative, and 53 are still pending results. The state of Hawaii DOH currently instructs doctors to collect and give the state 2 specimens along with any PUI form if both exposure and illness are present. We asked the state how it handled the samples provided with the 8 PUI forms. The DOH spokesperson told us: “The forms were sent to our state lab with specimens and the specimens were not tested because the samples did not meet the criteria. The samples were discarded.”Dr. Brady tells KHON2 a change is being made, as of this week, to both the form and the PUI procedure. “(Hawaii State Epidemiologist) Dr. (Sarah) Park and her team at the Department of Health have developed a new clearer direction for how to identify a person under investigation which we call a PUI,” Brady said, “to avoid false positives and alarming follow-up by the Department of Health of cases that may have nothing to do with coronavirus.”KHON2 asked, will this new form also require specimens? “It may,” Brady said, “but they will probably be collected by the Department of Health” rather than by the physician as currently instructed. Brady says it will still likely be weeks before any in-state testing becomes possible.We’re checking on whether any of those 8 are among the 61 people self-monitoring.
